Favorite Disney Thing #12 - That First Glimpse of the Tree of Life - If you have never been to Disney's Animal Kingdom, then you are missing out on a spectacular view! The first time I saw the Tree of Life, it nearly took my breath away. The Tree of Life is the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and has always been one of my favorite Disney things, especially that first glimpse of it as you walk from the Oasis across the Discovery River bridge onto Discovery Island. You won't believe how many different animals you will see carved into the 'bark' of the Tree. It's branches span over 160 feet across and hold more than 100,000 leaves. The design of this 145-foot-tall masterpiece symbolizes the circle of life. More than ten artists & Imagineers created and carved over 320 different animals into its roots, branches, and 50-foot-wide trunk.
The next time you are at Disney's Animal Kingdom, be sure to take a closer look at the Tree of Life during different times of the day. You will be able to see different animals appear as the sun moves across the sky. Also, pay close attention to the Tree's roots on your way through the line for 'It's Tough to Be a Bug'. You'll get an excellent up-close view of many of the animals carved into the Tree's roots.
