Favorite Disney Things ~ Impromptu Character Meetings

Favorite Disney Thing #61 - Impromptu Character Meetings - If you have ever been to Walt Disney World, or any Disney park, you must know what I am talking about. If not, then let me explain. An Impromptu Character Meeting is an unexpected or unscheduled character meet-and-greet. It can happen almost anywhere, but is usually in less crowded areas of the parks. Random characters come out of hiding in unexpected locations for a quick photo and autograph session. You never know who might show up.

Several years ago, my family and I were spending the day in Animal Kingdom when a torrential downpour interrupted our otherwise magical day. We ducked inside Pizzafari to escape the rain and grab a quick bite to eat. My nephew, Captain Z, is mildly autistic and had a habit of carrying something in each hand, usually of the toy variety. I had recently given him my son's old 'Flik' and 'Princess Atta' (from A Bug's Life) stuffed animals to play with, so of course he had one in each hand. As we were just settling down to eat our lunch in the camouflage room at Pizzafari, 'Flik' came through one of the side doors! Captain Z was so excited and couldn't wait to meet and get his picture taken with the big blue bug himself! Before we got in line to meet him, Captain Z made sure we left 'Princess Atta' behind on our table (a rare occasion for him at that age). When it was our turn, he proudly showed 'Flik' his little blue buggy twin. It was a moment that none of us will ever forget!
