Favorite Disney Thing #44 - Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress - This beloved attraction was first brought to life at the 1964 New York World's Fair. It moved to Disneyland's Tomorrowland in 1967 and remained there until 1973. The Carousel finally moved to its present home in Walt Disney World Resort's Magic Kingdom in 1975. It holds the record as the longest-running stage show, with the most performances, in the history of American theater. Not only is it one of Walt Disney World's oldest, but it is also one of the few attractions there to have been touched by Walt Disney himself.
I remember the first time I took a "spin" on the Carousel of Progress. It was many, many years ago during my very first Walt Disney World vacation in 1985. I remember thinking how neat it was that the whole theater rotated and I loved the song - still do! Most people today are not going to love it like I do, but at least we can all agree that it is an excellent air conditioned spot for a short but refreshing little nap ~ and on a hot Florida day, that is just fine!
I love this ride. Next to Big Thunder and Rockin Roller, it is my favourite. It is nostalgic and yet I notice something new every time..(sometimes makes me sad at how run down it is getting.) Thanks for sharing!
